Upper Clutha Tramping Club

Upper Clutha Tramping Club

Club nights are held on the first Wednesday of each month (excluding July) at 7.30pm in the Wanaka Fire Brigade social rooms at the back of the station. These meetings are advertised in the Messenger and have an informal structure. Generally reports are given on recent trips and information is given and trip booking lists circulated on upcoming trips. A speaker may give a talk on a topic of general interest or the members may participate in a practical exercise relating to tramping skills and knowledge. The evenings conclude with a social “cuppa”. Each month “Bootprints” is published, usually electronically, and sent to members to keep them up to date on upcoming trips, trips reports and general information.

A trip program is issued at the start of each summer season and this has a mix of day, two day and multi day tramps. The trips are graded so that you know the level of difficulty of the tramp. Prospective members are invited to have a chat to the trip leaders and to join a trip that is appropriate. In the winter months we have a program of day walks that are usually of easy to medium grades. These are held on the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month from May to September. Participants meet at the car park near the skate board park end of Pembroke Park at 8.30 am.
