Wakatipu Tramping Club
The Wakatipu Tramping Club is based in the Queenstown area and has members in Queenstown, Arrowtown, and some from further afield. We cater for trampers at all levels of tramping from casual day walkers to serious explorers.
Tramping trips are a mix of social trips, day trips and weekend trips. Weekend trips range from easy walks and tramps using the Department of Conservation and other NZ huts which are relatively close to the Wakatipu area to packing your tent and tramping to other not so accessible areas in Otago, Southland, Westland and South Canterbury. Trips are sometimes arranged further afield and long weekends are usually taken advantage of. Most weekends have either a 2 day tramp or a 1 day walk over the many tracks which are relatively close to the Queenstown and Wanaka area.
The Club meets on the first Tuesday of each calendar month at the Frankton Presbyterian Church rooms, Ross Street, Frankton at 7.30pm. Any Club business is briefly dealt with at these meetings and the majority of the evening is taken up by speakers who usually talk about their photographs of recent trips both overseas and in New Zealand. At the conclusion of the meeting there is time provided to catch up with each other and supper.
